A Seminar for Medical Hot Topics In Procedures Training

CME Conference Description:

This CME medical conference provides didactic and hands-on instruction in a variety of procedures that are commonly indicated in the primary care office. These topics are easily learned in this setting, and their frequently indicated in a primary care practice. After this course, the student should feel ready to return to his or her practice and begin performing these procedures. This CME medical conference includes all of the following topics:

Vasectomy (No-scalpel): Patients truly prefer the no-scalpel technique. This CME medical conference is a comprehensive review of the entire topic of vasectomy, but will concentrate on the no-scalpel approach. History, pre-operative counseling, complications, various techniques, and follow-up are all reviewed. Vasectomy is safer, less costly, and has a lower failure rate (and the failures can be detected) when compared to tubal ligations. Your start-up expenses are minimal and patients prefer having their family physician do the procedure. The new VASCLIP also reviewed.

IUD Insertion: With proper patient selection, lUD’s are safe, cost-effective, and easily inserted. Studies show they prevent conception which makes them more acceptable to patient and physician alike. Reviews indicate they are often inappropriately overlooked as a contraceptive choice. The Mirena is indicated to treat hypermenorrhea. IUD’s are approved for 5-10 years of continual use. Experts feel they are underused.

Breast Biopsy (Needle) and Approach to Breast Complaints: The entire approach to breast lesions is discussed. Relieve anxiety and make a diagnosis more quickly and cost-effectively. Aspiration and biopsy reviewed. New methods, safety, and reliability discussed.

Hemorrhoid Treatment: What a change! You no longer need to give a patient six weeks off work for hemorrhoid surgery. Ninety percent of symptomatic hemorrhoids can be treated in the office and the patient can return to work the same day. Office treatment of hemorrhoids using infrared coagulation (IRC) and rubber band ligation is reviewed. It’s now easier than you think.

Endometrial Biopsy/Abnormal Uterine Bleeding: Endometrial biopsy has replaced most D&C’s. Ninety-seven percent accuracy in diagnosis makes this the procedure of choice for evaluating abnormal uterine bleeding.

Joint Injection and Aspiration: Why use a “shotgun” approach with medications that affect the entire body when a focused injection can take care of the problem? Significant toxicity can result from NSAID’s and they rank as the 15th most common cause of death in the U.S. With proper guidelines, steroid injections are safe, provide rapid relief, and are cost-effective. This same course has been “sold out” at the AAFP annual meeting for 14 years. Learn these skills now.

"I have taken joint injection courses from other companies and left feeling as uncomfortable with the procedures as before I started. Not the case with Dr. Erickson's course. I am very confident now and intend to go back to my practice and do more ortho in my practice and less refering out for joint line management.  Thanks!!" - Anonymous, October 2009
