Dr. LaRavia was in rural practice for 20 years in central Louisiana after completing his medical education at LSU Medical School in New Orleans, Louisiana and post-graduate training at LSUMC University Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana. He then completed a mini-fellowship in Dermatology with Dr. Ron Lubritz in Hattiesburg, Mississippi while in private practice. He taught part-time from 1979 through 1993 at LSUMC University Hospital in Shreveport and the LSU Family Medicine Residency in Monroe. In 1993, he began full-time teaching at LSUMC Shreveport until 2001. While there he started two Family Medicine residencies and continued to hone his dermatological skills. From 2001 until 2005, he worked with Texas A & M Medical School in College Station, Texas teaching medical students and residents at the Brazos Family Medicine Residency. From 2005 until 2008, he started and gained full 3 year accreditation of the new rural residency in Bogalusa, La. This program was sponsored by LSUHSC-New Orleans and is located in southeastern Louisiana. Since January 2008, he has worked as Medical Director of Rayburn Correctional Center and Director of Occupational Medicine at Temple-Inland Paper Company in Bogalusa, Louisiana. He enjoys Family Medicine and performs a wide scope of practice procedures and enjoys imparting these skills to others. He has been selected as one of the Top Doctors in the United States over the last three years, including being presented in Cambridge Who's Who among Executives and Professionals. He was also accepted in the Globall Who's Who of Individuals. He enjoys teaching and spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren.
