NPI’s Houston conference is right around the corner, and this post contains a list of suggestions for things to do and places to eat while attending.
Houston is the largest city in the state of Texas, and is the fourth largest in the United States. It is home to numerous cultural institutions and exhibits, which can attract more than 7 million visitors a year. The City of Houston has an active visual and performing arts scene in the Theater District and offers year-round exhibits and activities in all sections of major performing arts. Houston’s expertise also extends to the realm of culinary arts, as it is home to numerous world renowned establishments and eateries located all throughout the city.
Houston, Texas, has come to define itself as not only a destination that is rich in culture and diversity, but also as a pioneer for creativity and innovation. So, whether you are looking to try Texas BBQ for the first time, visit the Galleria to do some world-class shopping, or simply stroll through one of Houston’s 337 parks, make no mistake, Houston certainly has something for everyone!

Points of interest:
Bayou Place – Located in Houston’s Downtown Theater District, this 130,000 square-foot entertainment complex is comprised of theaters, bars, lounges, and restaurants. Here you are bound to find something for everyone.
Galleria Mall – The Galleria, Houston’s largest mall, is an upscale shopping mall centrally located in Houston’s Uptown District. The Galleria houses world-class shopping that could take days to explore and boasts two well-known hotels for increased convenience.
Things to do:
Downtown Aquarium – The Aquarium is home to over 400 species of marine life. It also houses a unique restaurant that comes equipped with a 150,000 gallon two-story tank.
Johnson Space Center – The Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center, home of the NASA astronaut corps, is located in southeast Houston. Here, you can experience a simulation of a zero-gravity environment in the Living in Space exhibit or encounter a virtual rocket launch complete with exhaust at the Blast-Off Theater.
Where to eat:
Vic & Anthony’s – Hailed as one of the best steakhouses in Houston, if not THE best, Vic & Anthony’s boasts everything from a macaroni-and-cheese burger to a mouth-watering rib eye. Oh yeah, it’s also known to have the best crab cake around.
Gatlins’s BBQ – So, this IS Texas and it just wouldn’t seem right without a suggested BBQ outing. Gatlin’s is located in a tiny converted house in the Heights area. Known for their brisket and ribs, Gatlin’s is sure to satisfy your appetite for all things BBQ.
Ruggles Grill – If you are in the mood for something a little more organic or health conscious, look no further! Ruggles Grill has worked hard to construct a menu that embodies farm-to table practices. The Ruggles chef enjoys buying organic and natural ingredients, and he strives to work with local farmers. Are you ready to get your healthy on? Ruggles is just the place!
