Train the Trainer — POCUS is a one-day course.

Decreasing costs of equipment, improved portability and availability, improved imaging and technology are a few of the reasons you’ll personally want to learn how to use and teach POCUS. Medical students now learn POCUS as part of their core curriculum (e.g., physical diagnosis). In 2018, the American Academy of Family Physicians introduced a recommended curriculum for POCUS in residencies. To quote: “POCUS is the biggest advance in bedside diagnosis since the advent of the stethoscope 200 years ago. A large body of evidence clearly demonstrates that using POCUS improves clinical outcomes, reduces failure and complication rates during procedures, rapidly narrows differential diagnoses, shortens time to definitive treatment, lowers cost, and reduces the use of ionizing radiation of computed tomography (CT) imaging.” The purpose of this course is to customize training for medical school or residency faculty on the basic technology and techniques and current indications and considerations for POCUS ultrasound. Approximately half of the time will be spent with hands-on scanning. Designing curriculum, documentation of imaging, credentialing and quality assurance programs, billing and coding will be discussed.
